The Rome Township Community Park Board was formed in 2024 by a group of five friends known as the Old Lady Gang. The group had been enlisted by a citizen of Stewart, Ohio who envisioned a playground for the children of Stewart and surrounding areas.
The Board applied for and was granted 501 (c) (3) charitable organization tax exempt status and immediately began applying for grants and donations. Many fundraisers were also held.
The project was largely supported by the community with many giving donations. The Hayes family pledged a matching donation up to $10,000.00. The park committee and other citizens took up the challenge and within a few months we met and exceeded the challenge.
The park is owned by the Rome Township Trustees and the park committee will partner with them in all decisions involving the park.
Our first phase is placing safe, inclusive playground equipment in the park.
Our second phase will be the establishment of a walking path within the confines of the park.
Future plans are for a basketball court, restroom facilities and a pavillion.
